SEE THE OPTIONS >There are two main options for powering your blinds, there are advantages and disadvantages to both options. Pick which one works best for you.
Our electric blind motors can run on either a Somfy battery pack, which sits out of sight behind your blind, or use a discrete internal li-ion battery. There is no need to compromise your decor either, as the battery pack provides a WireFree power solution and your blind can be operated by remote control or integrated into your smart home system.
If you have the option to include wired-in technology, you could consider our Sonesse range of blind motors. Control these quiet motors with a simple remote control or integrate them into your home automation system.
No you dont need smart blinds. In fact older style RTS blinds can be controlled using the same TaHoma Switch hub that the smart blinds are controlled with.
But with a smart motor there are many additional benefits that are simply not available with an older style motor.
Traditional blinds only have one way communication. This means that you press a button on a handset and the blind should respond. But with one way communication the only way you know if it has responded is by watching the blind. With one way communication theres no way for you to check things like the battery level or blind position.
A Zigbee blinds on the other hand have two way communication so when used with a compatible hub such as Somfy TaHoma Switch you will know that the blind has responded because it can tell you, in addition it will also give the you the battery status of each blind. And if your using any sensors you can see how warm or cold your rooms and program your blinds to respond to chnges in temperature or light intensity.
To get started all you need are some blinds with smart Somfy Zigbee motors and a Somfy TaHoma Switch hub. This allows you to schedule your blinds, and control them with your phone or voice activation*.
If you want your blinds to react to temperatures or light intensity you will need some additional sensors. And if your not ready to go all in with sensors etc these can always be added at a later date.
By buying Somfy Zigbee blinds you are future proofing your installation for years to come.
*voice activation requires a suitable voice assistant such as Amazons alexa or google home.
With Somfy TaHoma Switch you can use voice activation from Alexa, Goggle home or Apple Homekit. Or you can control your blinds from anywhere with your phone. And with Smart Zigbee motors you get two way communication so that you know that your blinds have moved.
Absolutely, with Somfy TaHoma Switch it is possible to use light and heat sensors to tell the blinds when to go up or down. So even when your at work your house can be kept cool by lowering your blinds. Or in winter you can take advantage or the suns rays to warm your house by lifting your blinds.
If you currently have blinds powered by a Somfy motor it is very likely that there will be a smart zigbee equivalent. If your blinds are not currently motorised it may be possible to motorise them but this will depend on various factors. Contact us for more information.
